What this blog is about

Much has been written about self sufficiency and we are told that anyone can grow (virtually) all their own food. I want to see if growing your own really does save any money. I have no formal horticultural training and very limited experience; everything I know about growing vegetables is gleaned from books, TV or the internet. This is not an expert gardening blog, it just tries to answer the following question:

How much money can an enthusiastic amateur save by growing their own?
